2) Job Search System
Cold outreach that actually works
Cold outreach means messaging someone you don't know. Most students do this by saying 'Please give me a job.' That doesn't work. The Human Way: Send a short, polite message. 'Hi [Name], I'm a student at [University]. I saw your post about the new project your team is doing. I'm really interested in that field. Would you have 10 minutes to talk about how you got started?' People love to talk about themselves. If you are respectful and curious, they will want to help you.
If you are in Tech, Engineering, or Finance, you will have a skills test. For coders, this is often a Whiteboard or Live Coding session.
3.2.1 Don't just start typing. Use the UMPIRE framework:
- Understand the problem (ask questions).
- Match it to a pattern (have I seen this before?).
- Plan your solution (write the steps in plain English).
- Implement (write the code).
- Review (check for bugs).
- Evaluate (can it be faster?).
3.2.2 The interviewer cares more about how you think than if your code is 100% perfect. Talk out loud while you work!
